I liked the historical aspect of the hotel. It offset the tiny bathroom. They made use of the space they had to work with, while maintaining the integrity of the architecture. Loved the location and the staff was very friendly and helpful!

The doors need to be adjusted as the walls are not soundproof. Every time someone closes a door it sounds like they are slamming it. As someone who is sensitive to noise, this was concerning and would wake me up. No control on temperature in the room did not make it that comfortable..

The Tilden staff made me feel so welcome as I arrived, and each time I returned. I enjoyed the comfort of the room and loved the products they used. So nice to have the cafe in the morning and all of the little amenities. Quick from the Powell St BART station! I will return!!

Nice hotel but paper thin walls

Pros: Lobby, room comfort
Cons: Walls allow all noise from room next door to be heard. Connecting doors could be insulated. Serious problem that would cause me not to go back.
The Tilden is well placed right in the middle of the SF hotel district, around the corner from the Hilton. This old building has been renovated aesthetically but not structurally - there are pipes on the ceiling in the hallways and the stairs are narrow. The biggest problem is that walls are paper thin and you can hear everything from the room next door - literally as though the other guests are in the same room with you. In our first room a woman next door was having a loud conversation on the phone and it was as though she was yelling in my ear. After a long time I had to knock on the wall to get to sleep. In the second room a honeymooning Italian couple were having an argument about money and we heard every word. The rooms and clean and decorated in a minimalist style. We stayed in two different rooms and one had a bathroom sink so small you couldn't avoid splashing water all over the floor. Closets were open cubbies and one had a movement activated automatic strip light which was a problem if one of us got up in the middle of the night. The lobby is nicely decorated, front desk staff were courteous and there is a small cafe for breakfast. Other than the paper thin walls, it is a pleasant hotel but definitely nowhere near a four stars - three stars is more accurate and they really need to fix the noise problem.

Disappointing

Pros: Pleasant staff, especially the bellhop.
Cons: The rooms need a desk The internet pictures show a bright, clean, cheerful room, but the moulding is actually gloss black and "gloppy". No appeal.
Location: Location is fine. There were a lot of homeless people, but that's typical city. Easy to get to many places from the location.
I will never stay at this hotel again. I paid over $500 for one night in a hotel that doesn't warrant more than $180-$200/night. The elevator (very tiny) was broken when we arrived, but staff brought our luggage up. I walked up 5 flights of stairs that were uneven. The room was clean, but small. There was nowhere to sit except the bed and the bathroom was clean but not anything special. This stay was disappointing and a rip-off. I've stayed at many hotels in San Francisco and there is no way this one is worth the price.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. The city gets busy during conventions and large events, thus constricting the availability of rooms. We are sorry to hear about your disappointment in the quality of our rooms.

Great Stay

Wonderful staff, they were helpful friendly and engaging. The room was clean and crisp with vintage charm. The location was convenient to the BART and buss trolley lines so commuting to and from the airport and within town was a breeze. There were a number of top rated restaurants within a short walk, and the hotel lounge and café has great food also.
