Very comfy beds and sheets. Nice large tub and shower. Nice view out private balcony. Very eco friendly - you have to turn off all electricity when you leave the room. Very good breakfast. Good location, very Monteverde Cloud Reserve.

Huge spread out luxury hotel
Pros:The view, large room, breakfast buffet, swimming pool and private trails into the cloud forest.
Cons:Roof needs fixing, and insects seem to get in, maybe through the balcony door.
Location:A bit far from town,about 15 minute walk down a steep hill.
Luckily,meet upgraded to a deluxe room because we ended up with a suite that was the closest to the reception and restaurant. For a lower price I bet you are in a building a lot higher up on the hillside. I found a huge insect on my curtain and had a leak from the ceiling in a heavy rain. The suite was huge and light, with an upstairs. The hotel goes almost a mile uphill with several long buildings.

I don't normally do reviews, but this place was such a pleasant surprise and didn't have many reviews. It's really a resort, with all the amenities. Off season, the rates are incredibly reasonable and include a huge breakfast buffet. Friendly staff. No complaints at all. If you plan to drive, get a 4wd once you leave the main highway.
We did the sky-line at Extremo sports: very nice and professional place.

This place was odd.
I have never written a review before but felt I should write one on this place. We traveled around Costa Rica and stayed here for two of the 9 nights we were there. It was our least favorite. The rooms were nice ( very clean) and large and the bathrooms were also but our room and our daughter's room had very little hot water. We called the front desk and were told to wait 15 minutes. Hard to do when you are covered with soap. We had only a few minutes of hot water and then it was very cold - not good! Also, the hall was all stone and although handsome it echoed badly so you heard everything that happened on the whole floor.
The elegant resturant was overpriced and a disappointment. We had to send our drinks back as they were not what we ordered. The salad was delicious but the entrees were not.
The whole place ,we thought, had an unfriendly feeling to it - it really was just odd.

The view from this hotel is amazing!
This hotel makes the road trip to get there completely worth it. The views and experience of being in the middle of the rain forrest is fantastic. Watching the clouds roll up the mountain to our room and then hearing the rain. You are in another world. You must experience this.
The rooms are large with private balconies.
Two restaurants, one buffet and one a la carte. Though good, the a la carte restaurant is very expensive.
We also did the zip-line canopy tour that the hotel operates. So much fun!!! This is by the far the best zip-line tour I have ever done.
If you go to Costa Rica include Monteverde and stay at this hotel.

Best Hotel EVER!
We stayed 4 nights at El Establo - this resort is AMAZING! I travel constantly and have to say this is one of the best places I have ever stayed! The rooms are huge, and the bathroom is almost as big as the room. The rough hewn furniture added just the right charm for the Monteverde location. The soaps, towels, and linens were spa-level. Every room has a front balcony with breath-taking views of the bay & penninsula. The room even had a fridge! The resort shuttles you efficiently within the grounds - to the various restaurants, pools, zip lines on-site at the top of the mountain, or reception/tour desk area. And this is truly a resort - there's a full spa and activities. The breakfast (included) was not just cereal - it included made-to-order omlets, pancakes, waffles, the whole works. And the very best part - the on-site zip lines!! Of the seven places in the Monteverde area offering zip lines this one's the best (we did them all). It's the best because there's both an upper and lower body harness (making the ride MUCH more comfortable), there's relatively little hiking (they drive you to start from the top), the guides were the most profressional, patient, safety-oriented, and the lines themselves had truly breath-taking views. Lastly, the resort location is prime in the city - just 1-2 miles from the city center - a brief walk, or a $2 taxi ride. And there are restaurants even closer too, next door, across the street. But the on-site restaurant by the lake was so good we stayed there most nights (and it was not substantially more expensive than the "normal" restaurant)... they served cuisine like you would get back home for 4x the price. This rivals any big city resort!
