Property is absolutely gorgeous, and is set back from the main road; once you turn off the main road, you have to drive about 10 minutes on a narrow winding road to reach the resort. Makes it very private and exclusive, unlike other hot spring resorts that are right on the main road. But it also makes it much less convenient to go off property for meals and activities. I think the idea is to have a captive experience, where you have all meals and activities on site. They have 28 beautiful thermal baths, of varying temperatures from 88 to 104 degrees. Often times, we were the only ones in the pool that we were in. There is one slide for the kids, short, but fast and a great deal of fun. Most pools stay open until 10 pm, with nice lighting, which is great; we had dinner in the pool one night, at the swim up bar, quite the experience. I would say that the food and drinks are rather expensive, and the food quality is mediocre at best. Ironically, the "local dishes", such as the Casado, were the worst; some of the American continental dishes (BBQ ribs, grilled chicken) were decent, but salads really disappointed, and were very small. Had the most expensive bagel of my life, at $10. But at least it was good, and staff was apologetic about the absurd pricing.
Club Rio is a nice amenity on site, takes about 10 min by shuttle to get there, but fun river activities (tubing and kayaking), although it is only a one mile stretch that takes about 15 minutes.

Perfect spot
Pros:Hot springs everywhere you look!
Cons:The road in could use a grading or maybe even get it paved...
Everything was perfect from start to finish. The room was awesome, the pools were great and the food was amazing.

Great hotel with fantastic views and service
Great place to stay the food was excellent and the pools and hot springs are great. The staff was really good especially Virgilio who was the waiter for our private dinner, he went above and beyond to make it a special evening.

The best view of the Volcano
This hotel was great but not the best. It has the best view in Arenal and the activities were plentiful but I was not happy with the comfort of our room for the price. The hot springs seemed a little too fabricated and my biggest upset was the smell at the pools bathroom. The smell almost made me vomit. Our room smelled of laquer or varnish and it did not seem healthy to breathe in that smell for the time we stayed. The bed squeaked every time someone moved and it woke up everyone in the room so we did not get any sleep and the pillows were too stuffed which caused neck pain and so none of us in our party got any rest. I would recommend this hotel for no more than 2 nights for the activities and the view. Everything else was below mediocre.

Excellent 5-star experience!
Pros:Amenities, staff.
Cons:Nothing.
Location:Must visit Club Rio. We did not go into town.
Five stars doesn't begin to cover this resort. It is absolutely amazing! Upon our arrival we were given a welcome cocktail and a personal tour of the resort. The rooms are spectacular. The volcano can be seen from the porch of the room. All of the pools were wonderful and the natural hot springs were so relaxing. The resort is so large that you never feel crowded but there is always someone around if you are in need of anything. The staff was so friendly and courteous. They knew our name on the second day we were there. The on-site restaurants were wonderful and the breakfast buffet was excellent. There were primarily adults when we visited, but kids would enjoy it as well. A definite must visit resort.
