VERY nice hotel. Yes, it's a bit rough around the edges.

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, great shopping and sightseeing location
Cons: "free" internet slow as molasses, wear and tear in washroom too visible
This is still a VERY nice hotel - comfortable, quiet rooms, heat works (quietly, no less!), good staff, and premium location. In mid-winter, paying $23/night for heated downtown parking was not an annoyance. Paying extra for "premium" wireless internet service WAS annoying (the free service was very slow). The bathroom could have used some grout work and paint touchup. Yes, the TV was sad, old, and bulky, but the picture was fine. The Christmas season is a great time to stay at this hotel, especially if you want to shop or sightsee downtown.

Fantastic stay

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, heated parkade
Cons: expensive parking
highly recommended if you don't mind slightly outdated interiors. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The one negative is parking is too expensive at double digit rates per night and there is a very very long walk from the heated park are.

Beautiful hotel close to everything downtown

Pros: The beds are the best I've ever slept in
Location: Right next to Rogers Place and City Centre Mall
We had the best experience in this hotel. They never disappoint. Rooms are always clean and the beds are sooooo comfy. Highly recommend

Stuck elevators and confused staff

We checked in somewhat later in the evening and unfortunately the night staff were not the most proficient at communicating or handling request or issues. One of the 3 elevators was out for service, the second one became stuck on the second floor with me wife in it and the third was routinely packed. It took 30+ minutes to get from the ground floor to our room. When we finally got to our room, it turns out somebody was already in it. Quite a surprise for us and them to say the least. Parking was also an issue. The hotel parking lot, that the front desk staff directed me to, was full. A sign at the entrance directed me to go to another one but didn't not actually give any directions to it. After driving around the block a couple of times I finally stopped and asked the parking attendant where to go. She didn't know exactly but "thought" it was over a block or so. I finally found it but then noticed that the daily rate for it was half what the hotel was charging me for parking as part of me room. The room was nice enough and check out in the morning was quick but we'll not stay there again I expect.

Perfectly fine

Pros: Free Internet
Better value than the Westin. Not as nice, but significantly cheaper, at least when I booked. Connected to the City Centre Mall via pedestrian bridge (although most stores in the mall close at 5 or 6 on weeknights, which is unfortunate for the business traveler).

Good value for your money

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
My wife and I recently spent the weekend at the Sutton Place Hotel. We liked the central location and I thought it was very good value for the money. They are upgrading it by adding the restaurant CHOP to the hotel, which I think will make a great addition. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the room was large, bright, clean and comfortable. My only concern would be that the room is starting to look a little dated, and could use a little redecoration. I would definitely stay there again.

Watch out for BED BUGS

I stayed in this hotel May 28 & May 29. The staff were great but the first indication I had this was not a 4 star hotel was waking up in the morning to an awful smell in the room. House keeping came and advised the plumbing lines were plugged causing the foul odor. Instead of moving me to another room while they repair it they send in the plumber while I am in the room. Not exactly relaxing or comfortable. However that does not even beging to compare to what I discovered at check out on Sunday morning. I was covered in bites on my arms, shoulders and legs, I even advised the staff something must have been in my room biting me because of the welts and the incredible itch. The following day I went to a doctor who advised me I had bed bug bites. I called the hotel and the manager suggested that I was allergic to the detergent they used on the sheets because the maid checked the room and found nothing( or so they say). This was the only hotel I stayed in and I have over 50 bites. If you stay check your bed very carefully!!!

Not the Best

Stayed here 3 nights and it was ok but certainly not a 4 star. As others have said it is dated and the carpets and fixtures need updating. The worst was the noise with kids running in the hallways and nothing done about it (well after midnight) by staff after it was brought to their attention by numerous guests. The restaurant is expensive for what you get.

This is *NOT* a 4 Star Hotel!

This may have been a 4 star hotel in 1981. I guess for the price (week before Christmas) the value was OK. But normally I would NOT stay here again. Everything worked OK, and was reasonably clean, and service was OK. But the whole place needs a MASSIVE renovation, particularly the bathrooms. I am not a fan of chipped enamel in the sink of a "4 star" hotel. The local Motel 6, OK fine, but not a hotel aspiring to a higher level. Also, being old and way past the "time to renovate" date, the place had the weird "old hotel" smell. Not stale smoke....just the "carpets that have been steam cleaned too many times instead of replaced" smell. Tolerable but not pleasant. Parking is expensive ($* / day) and a pain....you park around the corner in a parkade and then have to haul your luggage in through doors and an elevator that are just a bit too small when your hands are full. Internet service is a touch deceptive. They say "free" high speed internet in the hotel description which is true....but to get REAL high-speed internet you need to upgrade to the "premium" service which is $* / day (not mentioned in the hotel description). However, it is wireless and is painless to connect if your laptop is at all modern. The staff are pleasant and helpful. No problems there. So it all comes down to expectations. I got the room at a pretty reasonable price - less than some 3 and even 2 star properties. In that situation I'd say sure, as long as you can live with the 80's decor it's all right. But it can't compete with other hotels in this category if they're trying to charge full price.
