I have to say, I was unexpectedly disappointed. I was hosting friends who always show me a good time when I visit them, so I tried to do the same when they came to see me. I spent a lot of time researching hotels, scouring reviews, and looking at best hotels in Boston lists. Eventually I landed on the Kimpton. I’ll cut to the chase and explain why I ended up feeling embarrassed about this decision: 1. The room was in my name, but I added one of my guests to it weeks before so they would have a smooth check-in without me there. When my friends arrived after long hours of travel, they were unable to check in because the front desk didn’t get the message. I had to call to find out what happened and reservations said that they were able to see my previous request, but the front desk couldn’t. What is the point of putting a name on a room if it is noted in a place where the front desk can’t see it? So we got off to a not so great start. 2. This is minor, but about first impressions—there was a problem with the elevators once my guests were finally able to check in, so they had to ride the service elevator to the room. 3. Because of previous reviews, I knew to ask for a pet-free floor and a park view room. I was shocked to find that we had no real view (just the roofs of some buildings) & as a result my guests kept the curtains closed the whole time. And on top of that we could hear dogs barking in the hallway the entire weekend. It was a really disappointing stay.

I liked the location of the hotel and the cleanliness. Staff was professional and welcoming. I thought the hotel was very compartmentalized in style and very dark and masculine. Expected a larger more grand lobby, restaurant, etc.

Didn't live up to the 4 star rating

Pros: The location was convenient to all downtown points of interest.
Cons: See above.
Location: It is right across from the cemetery, down the street from the Commons and the State House. It is convenient to the Visitors Center.
When we booked the hotel we knew that part was under construction and they were revamping the kitchen. The restaurant was closed but you could still order warm meals through room service. The "grab and go" breakfasts were all sugar coated muffins, croissants, etc. when they could have easily served hard boiled eggs, yogurt, etc. We bought our breakfast foods at 7-ll and kept in our refrigerator in the room. The appetizers with the wine at social hour were nearly non-existent with one small plate for a room full of people. If you were not there within 5 minutes after they place it on the buffet, they were all gone. We never had any. Our bathroom shower door did not close properly and water ended up all over the bathroom floor every time we showered. We had to pile towels up against the door to keep it to a minimum. The water on the shower came out like a fire hose and there was no way to minimize it. We like water pressure, but this was ridiculous! We told the people at the front desk about the shower problems, but nothing was done. The air conditioning could be set at a temperature but never went off and ran continuously making the room freezing. We had to turn it off despite the fact that it was 90 degrees outside. I normally look at the positive side but this hotel did not meet our expectations, especially since it had such a high rating.

Great stay

Pros: Great staff and comfortable beds. Centrally located to all major city attractions.
Cons: Cleaner common areas, especially near the elevators.
Location: Near the wharf area, the North End, and the subway. Fenway Park was a few stops away on the subway.
This hotel is in a great location. It was centrally located to all the major things to do in the city. The concierge, Andrew, was so helpful to us. He confirmed our ground transportation and assisted us with our return plane reservations. The entire staff was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. In addition, the hotel offered a delicious breakfast every morning, a coffee bar in the lobby, and a complimentary wine hour every evening. Also, the bed and pillows were super comfortable. The only thing I would like to see would be cleaner floors around the elevator. It was a little dusty. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to go back.
